New Artwork Installed at the Jefferson Ave Garden

Jefferson Avenue Garden Manager, Stacey Moulds, asked gardeners Katy Thomas and Mark Lavery to have their daughters make a poster of the Garden Chore Chart. This chart lists the tasks that each gardener is responsible for doing in addition to keeping up with his or her garden plot.

This is the result! A fun way of reminding all of their tasks and a nice addition to the garden!

Cinco De Mayo Drinks & Nibbles – We’ll have ice-cold coronas with limes & an assortment of Virginia wines. Snack on some zesty Texas Caviar from the Alamo BBQ & some Latin-infused tasty treats from Hispania Bakery (Old World with a New World Twist, opening soon!). Both businesses are located right here in Union Hill.

Lamplighter Roasting Co. will have freshly made coffee & tea drinks and coffee beans for sale.

Mexican hand-made embroidered shirts for sale, brought back from Mexico by Amy Hicks of Amy’s Garden.

Music from Evrim Dogu of Sub Rosa Breadwill be singing and playing some music. Chris Hale with Scattered, Smothered & Covered (and owner of BioForm Landscape Architecture hopes to join him towards the end of the evening.

Earth Day Service Projects at the Urban Farm
It’s the season of rebirth and rejuvenation, so please join the Tricycle Gardens crew at the urban farm this Saturday, April 23, in conjunction with the city’s official Earth Day celebration. We’ll be offering tours from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm and a chance to get dirty in Richmond’s only urban farm.

Bring the whole family or roll in solo. For every two hours of service you and your family give Tricycle Gardens you’ll receive one of our fine, heirloom seedlings to jumpstart your own garden. We have numerous projects for all skill levels of workers from weeding and seeding to trellis construction and soil prep.

Earth Day at Plant Zero
If you’re not up for an afternoon of farm service projects, swing by our table at the official Earth Day Festival, just down the road by Plant Zero. We’ll have seedlings, rain barrels and other products for sale. Our knowledgeable crew will be happy to help you with any gardening questions. The Tricycle Gardens table will be near the Main Stage from 12:00 – 7:00 pm.

Earth Day continues on Easter Sunday at the Green Acre
Looking for something to do on Easter Sunday?  Want to give back to your community while enjoying the beautiful weather?  Join Tricycle Gardens on Sunday, April 24 at the Science Museum of Virginia, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, to spread some love!  Spring is here and in following with our permaculture design methods we are ready to add some of the nitrogen fixers, dynamic accumulators, mulch and insectary plants to our corner of the Green Acre.  Come on out and get dirty! 

The Green Acre garden plot is located behind the domed building of the Science Museum off Broad Street.  Please bring your own gloves!

They will be selling 1-pound bags of their locally roasted coffee beans & fresh coffee and tea to go! Today’s Special – FREE Iced Thai Coffee, Iced Tea & County Style Doughnuts for anyone who buys some veggies from Tricycle Gardens.

Veggies to Eat: Arugula, Broccoli Raab, Collards, Cress, Kale, Mizuna, Radish, Swiss Chard, Spinach, Turnips,  Sprout flats (Sunflower & Pea)  - you can cut them as you need them and return the empty flats for a discount towards a next purchase!

Tricycle Gardens Rain Barrels to use at your homes to conserve water and Worm Leachate to fertilize your plants (where else can you get that!?!)

The growing season is here and food production at the 9th & B urban farm is well underway!  While it may be early in the season, we have greens ready to be sold at our weekly farm stand.  Stop by the Tricycle Gardens HQ (2107 Jefferson Avenue) on Tuesdays and Thursdays – starting this week! – from 4-6 pm to get your locally grown, organic veggies!  The following items are available: broccoli raab, collards, turnips and arugula.  We appreciate the support of our community as we work to create a healthier, greener landscape for all.
